The moment we heard that Charles and Amy Trefes—owners of the beloved Windjammer Surf Bar in Misquamicut—were behind this venture, we knew we were in for something special. Charles and Amy have a proven gift for crafting restaurants that seamlessly blend great food with an inviting atmosphere, and Chillingham’s more than lived up to the hype.
Seated along the river, set back from the heart of downtown Westerly, Chillingham’s offers a serene yet upscale escape from the everyday. The decor strikes a perfect balance between modern elegance and cozy charm. Warm lighting, tasteful accents, and thoughtful details come together to create an ambience that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.
From the moment we walked in, the exceptional service was apparent. The staff was not only attentive but genuinely friendly, making us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. It set the tone for what would be an unforgettable evening.
We started with the triple-thick butcher cut bacon, an appetizer that immediately stole the show. Presented with flair and paired with a rich, flavorful bourbon dipping sauce, this dish was the perfect prelude to our meal—a delicious balance of smoky, savory, and sweet that we couldn’t stop talking about.
For my main course, I chose a fresh, crisp salad topped with perfectly cooked flat iron steak. The steak was tender and packed with flavor, complementing the greens without overpowering them. Meanwhile, my business partner indulged in the 16oz ribeye—a standout choice that delivered everything you could hope for in a steak. Juicy, tender, and seared to perfection, it came with a side salad and a perfectly baked sweet potato that was just the right level of sweet and buttery.
Of course, a great steak dinner deserves great cocktails, and Chillingham’s didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a round of expertly mixed drinks that paired beautifully with our meal. To finish, we savored an espresso martini—a smooth, rich ending to a fantastic dining experience.
