Tucked into the heart of downtown Westerly, Martin House Books feels like the kind of place every great community hopes to have, warm, welcoming, and full of character. Owner Gretchen Miller opened the shop in 2024 inside the historic Martin House on Canal Street after previously working at Savoy and at the Westerly Library, bringing with her a lifelong love of bookstores that started in her mother’s Massachusetts shop. Along with Café 1888 inside, Martin House Books has quickly become more than just a place to buy a book. It is a space to slow down, connect, discover something new, and be part of the creative energy that makes Westerly special.
